We Have You Covered

We have decades of Automotive Racing experience. We are dedicated to building high quality Synchronizer Rings for popular manual transmissions and we believe in bringing the fun back for these great older cars.

Our product line is small at the moment but we have many Synchronizer / Baulk Rings in pre-production, tooling and testing stages and will add more models as they are completed. It's a long and expensive process but, we believe these rings to be the best in the market place, hands down!

Our Commitment

Our Commitment

We're committed to providing a drama free experience to both new and returning customers and strive to provide the absolute best Synchronizer / Baulk rings on the planet, to ensure your race or street car transmission is always at its best.

Why we do what we do.

Our story is not uncommon but our solution is. Over the course of almost 50 years, we have learned that "ALL" production based transmissions have the same thing in common, the  Synchro / Baulk rings go bad and become hard to up and down shift causing the drivers to man handle the shift lever which in turn damages the transmissions.

At King Syncro, we understand that your vehicle is more than just a mode of transportation. It’s an extension of who you are and a reflection of your personality. That’s why we’re committed to providing you with the highest quality Synchro Rings to keep your transmission running smoothly.

We have and are developing Forged Steel Rings with a Carbon Friction surface to suit a variety of cars, mostly popular models of older cars. We can also build special orders for any type of Transmission.

You have questions? We have answers.

What's the difference between OEM "brass" and Steel Synchro's?

  • While the OEM Brass rings worked fine in the day, they did not do well under aggressive driving situations for long.

  • Most non OEM Brass rings are not very good, to put it mildly. They are made of a different material (softer) and the tolerances are horrible. I am speaking in general terms of course but if you are reading this you are well aware of these issues.

  • Our Steel Synchro rings are built to exacting tolerances that are consistent. There is no rocking on the cones in fact, putting a slight pressure on the ring onto the cone of the gear will lock it on.

  • Our Steel rings have the same coefficient of expansion as the gears themselves unlike Brass rings that expand more, making the tolerances worse at operating temperatures.

  • The steel rings do not crack, deform or wear like brass one do.

  • The Carbon Friction surface covers the cone on the gear 100% for a better coefficient of friction. OEM rings only touch the gear cone about 40% at best.

  • The ID of the OEM rings uses points that are threadlike and wear rapidly. When the points are worn the ring does not have the braking power to adequately slow or speed up the engaging gear making the transmission balky or hard to shift.

  • The steel / Carbon combination does not compress like the brass rings do.

  • Note; More and more OEM transmission manufactures are using steel / carbon rings in new cars. Yeah, it wasn't my idea; I just saw a need and am trying to fill it.

What Oil to use?

  • Do not use GL5 Gear oil

  • Do not use Red Line products at this time, there have been a few failures reported from those using MTL and Shock Proof. We have been working with a Redline engineer and have come to the conclusion that some of the esters in the Redline products may cause delamination of the carbon from the steel.

  • Good question, the honest answer is, I don't know yet. It is suggested the World Class T5 that comes with brass, fiber lined rings uses ATF which I can go with however; they are using a rollerized mainshaft unlike most older transmissions. I have had shaft / gear galling issues over the years while using GL4 type oil so I wouldn't recommend using ATF in a non rollerized mainshaft transmission.

  • Any GL4 (non synthetic) gear oil will work fine.

What should I expect after installing these Steel / Carbon rings?

You will notice immediately that you transmission shifts smoother and is way less fussy and, that your problem spots like downshifting into first gear are not only doable but shift with ease.

Can you make other models or special orders?

We are constantly working on more models and, yes we can do special orders. Please email us for more information.
